Your right to data deletion under UK GDPR

1. Overview
At BITESIGHT LTD, we respect your privacy and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). This Data Deletion Policy explains how you can request the deletion of your personal data and what happens when you make such a request.
You have the right to request the deletion of your personal data (also known as the "right to erasure" or "right to be forgotten") in certain circumstances.
2. Your Right to Data Deletion
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data when:
- The personal data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected
- You withdraw consent (where consent was the legal basis for processing)
- You object to the processing and there are no overriding legitimate grounds
- The personal data has been unlawfully processed
- The personal data must be erased to comply with a legal obligation
3. How to Request Data Deletion
Method 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)
The quickest way to delete your data is through the Bitesight app:
- Open the Bitesight app
- Go to Profile/Settings
- Select "Account Settings"
- Choose "Delete Account"
- Confirm your decision
Method 2: Email Request
You can also request data deletion by emailing us at info@bitesight.aiwith the subject line "Data Deletion Request". Please include:
- Your registered email address
- Your full name
- Confirmation that you want to delete your account and all associated data
4. Verification Process
To protect your privacy and security, we will verify your identity before processing any data deletion request. We may ask you to:
- Confirm the email address associated with your account
- Provide additional information to verify your identity
- Respond to a verification email sent to your registered address
5. Timeline for Deletion
We will respond to your data deletion request within 30 days of receipt, as required by UK GDPR. This timeline includes:
- 1-3 business days: Acknowledgment of your request
- 5-10 business days: Identity verification
- Within 30 days: Complete deletion of your data
In complex cases, we may extend this period by an additional two months. If this happens, we will inform you within the first 30 days and explain the reason for the delay.
6. What Data Will Be Deleted
When you request data deletion, we will permanently delete:
- Your account information (name, email, profile data)
- All health and nutrition data
- Meal photos and food logs
- Exercise and activity records
- Weight and measurement history
- Goals and preferences
- Usage data and analytics associated with your account
- Any other personal data we hold about you
7. Data We May Retain
In certain circumstances, we may need to retain some data even after a deletion request:
Legal Obligations
- Financial records for tax purposes (retained for 6 years as required by UK law)
- Records necessary for legal claims or disputes
- Data required to comply with legal obligations
Anonymized Data
We may retain anonymized or aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you. This data is used for statistical analysis and service improvement.
Security and Fraud Prevention
We may retain certain information necessary to prevent fraud, enhance security, or investigate possible violations of our Terms and Conditions.
8. Consequences of Data Deletion
Please note that data deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once deleted:
- You will lose access to your Bitesight account permanently
- All your historical data, including meal logs and progress, will be lost
- You will not be able to recover any deleted information
- Any active subscriptions will be cancelled
- You will need to create a new account if you wish to use Bitesight again
We recommend downloading your data before requesting deletion if you wish to keep a copy for your records.
9. Data Portability
Before deleting your data, you have the right to receive a copy of your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. To request a copy of your data, please email us at info@bitesight.ai with the subject line "Data Portability Request".
10. Complaints
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data deletion request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):
